Tip: To create a structural member style, switch to the Architecture workspace, clickManage tab Style & Display panel Structural Member Wizard, and create a style. To create a hanger style. Click Manage tab Style & Display panel Style Manager. In the left pane, expand Multi-Purpose Objects, and select the Hanger Styles category. If the Hanger Styles node is not listed under Multi-Purpose Objects, enter the HANGERADD command and follow the prompts to add a hanger to your drawing.

Create the style, and configure its general properties as described in Creating Styles. Click the Hangers tab.

We dont draw them because its too much detail/complexity in the model. We usually claim the gross space for installations with a transparent duct or mass that fills the required ceiling void. Depends what stage of the design youre at I guess, but if youre taking account of individual hangers in an early stage of the design thats a bit crazy. If you want to model them use a face/workplane based family that attaches to the cable tray (So it moves with changes, some kind of cable tray fitting might also work).

Make the two end ref planes Strong References, so you can use Align to stretch the family to the total length of the tray. Then just repeat a hanger sub-family in an array, with a parameter for hanger seperation. Waptrick android apps free download. If you want to be able to see the number of hangers in a schedule make the hanger sub-family shared too.

I have the same question, and wonder why hangers aren't included in Revit? The 'too much detail' argument is getting a bit old now, and needs to change.Conduit, Ducting, Pipework, and suspended ceilings all require hangers or catenary wires.

These can have a serious impact on construction, so need to be included in design if anyone want to start to claim to be 'BIMming'Emerging (well nearly aging) technology allows projection of points from a model into the real-world to increase accuracy and speed of installation ( ) and I believe Autodesk are investigating their own version of the same.I suppose its time to add a feature request. Autodesk has had their own Point Layout tool since a year and a half ago when they acquired Get The Point.Im also not sure if Autodesk has ever given the official reason there are no hangers in Revit as the 'too much detail' argument, nor do i think anyone would seriously buy that, considering there are apps from Tools4Revit, and SysQue, and SupportAndHanger, that will all model Hangers. My guess is something more along the lines of: Revit is Design, not fabrication.

And while its not a Choice argument, in MEP its still very true. I can draw a 200 foot long pipe or duct in revit, and they dont come that way. Putting hangers on a Revit MEP model is sort of like clash detecting Structure that an architect models, LOL.

Hey Aaron,The too much detail argument is generally coming from users, as they have to deal with slowdown, and diminishing productivity. For a hanger, often all that is required is a 3D line, which is particularly light on performance. The design vs fabrication argument also wears thin. I am working on dairy projects and hangers are definitely part of design and an integral part of the interference checking. It is safe to say that for most of the trades, the design and fabrication are the same process. As technology and processes evolve the design/fabrication process will continue to get closer. Autodesk are making movements toward RST and RMEP for fabrication with recent purchases, which only reinforces this.Fortunately we don't have 'architectural' models. Putting hangers in an MEP model is sort of like trying to 'do' BIM instead of selling its idea.

I dont disagree about Design versus Fabrication. More and more we are just having subs jump in and partner with Design Engineers, and start modeling the Fab model in AutoCAD MEP right away, and we coordinate it Navis. Its not that Revit.cant. do it, but.right now. it doesnt, without a bunch of addons and other stuff.

I dont want hangers, i want hangers, real connections, real fittings, real valves, and all of it. And i want it in design. Its great if Autodesk gets there eventually. And when they get there, we will be all in. But right now, they arent there. As for users complaining about too much geometry, and slowdown. Id love to see the models in question. We have some BEHEMOTHS.

And our models are all run on 1500 dolalr consumer grade machines, and theyre decently fast. Project performance Model performance.
